Harold Tovish  (1921-2008)

Price on request.

Signed: H. TOVISH '57, the year Tovish and his family moved to Boston after living in
Europe.  Although he is perhaps better known for his expressionistic and experimental
later work, this tender portrait (possibly one of his two daughters) shows the influence
of his European study.

His work is in the collections of the DeCordova Museum, the Danforth Museum of Art,
the Smithsonian, the Hirshhorn Museum, MoMA, New York, the Museum of Fine Arts,
Boston, and many others.  In 1954, he represented the USA at the 28th Venice Biennale with
Willem de Kooning and Ben Shahn.  He had a single-artist exhibition the Guggenheim in 1968.

Harold Tovish's work was included in the recent exhibition,
The Expressive Voice: Selections from the Collection
at the Danforth Museum of Art / Framingham, Massachusetts
